Chapter 17: Borrowing Courage from a Drink

It wasn't his first kiss. He'd had a few with his not-really-a-girlfriend back on Earth. But those kisses weren't like this, a kiss to confirm affection, but rather kisses steeped in lust, where they had simply devoured each other like beasts.

"Ehehe. First kiss... we did it."

"......."

"Was it... your first kiss too, Kenji-san?"

"...Yes."

Kenji nodded heavily. Technically, it wasn't, but it was his first in Kivotos, so he wasn't lying. And he didn't want to recall that kiss from Earth anyway.

"I see... it was Kenji's first too... hehe."

"Happy now?"

"Yes. I'm happy."

"Good..."

Kenji replied with a deep sigh.

Regardless, Nagisa, like a fool, smiled and rubbed her cheek against Kenji's chest. She wasn't particularly fond of people's scents, but for some reason, just smelling Kenji's scent made her feel good. So much so that she wouldn't get tired of smelling it all day long.

"Uhehe... ihihi..."

At a sight he would never see from the usually calm Nagisa, Kenji also let out a small laugh.

But... it was hard to see Nagisa as a romantic interest. To put it bluntly, it felt like his younger sister had suddenly confessed to him. Of course, there was nothing incestuous about the current situation, so it wasn't unpleasant, but it was just as bewildering.

And how could it not be? No matter how much his physical age was the same as Nagisa's, Mika's, and Seia's, his inner age was different. Even calculating based on his age on Earth, there was a 12-year age gap. To think of such a child as a romantic interest? And a student, not an adult? He couldn't possibly do that unless he was crazy.

Besides, he had first met Nagisa and Mika when they were in kindergarten. It was hard to just accept it when the kids who had been toddling around back then grew up and clung to him, saying they liked him.

'...I need to sort out my thoughts.'

Kenji had no intention of getting into a 'relationship' in Kivotos. It wasn't that he disliked women, but he had trauma from his relationship on Earth.

The woman he had devotedly poured his love into was actually another man's, and he had seen them tumbling in bed together; it would be strange if he didn't have trauma from that. If his first relationship hadn't ended like that, the trauma probably wouldn't have been so bad.

'But I can't just give her false hope either...'

He had to sort out his thoughts as quickly as possible and give her an answer. That was for Nagisa's sake, and at the same time, for his own.

-Even if my feelings are rejected, I will be by your side forever. But I'm sorry. I'm a selfish woman, so I don't think I can wish for your happiness after you've abandoned me. I'll probably struggle to have you by any means necessary.

For some reason, Nagisa's words echoed in his head. A statement where he felt obsession, possessiveness, and cloying affection all at once. It probably wasn't something she said with all her heart. She was probably just drunk and spouting whatever her tongue wanted to say.

...It probably was. It had to be.

"Nagisa."

"..."

"You said I can answer later, so I'll sort out my thoughts as much as possible before I do. It seems rude to you to just give any answer right now."

"..."

"So can you wait for me for a little while?"

"..."

"...Nagisa?"

There was no reply. Feeling puzzled, Kenji looked down at Nagisa, who was nestled in his arms. She was sleeping with her eyes gently closed, her breath even and steady. She had fallen asleep standing up.

"...You've got to be kidding me."

He had carefully chosen his words and spoken politely, only for the person in question to be passed out. Kenji let out a hollow laugh and carefully lifted Nagisa's body. She was ridiculously strong, but her body was as light as a feather. Thanks to that, there was no problem in moving her.

He carefully laid Nagisa on the sofa and covered her with the blanket that was on it. Just as he was about to turn away, Nagisa grabbed his collar.

"Don't go..."

"...Sheesh."

Kenji let out a deep sigh and plopped down on the floor. What could he do when she was asking him not to go with such a pitiful voice? He left the hand that Nagisa was holding as it was and took out his smartphone with his other hand. As he usually kept his phone on silent mode, he had a pile of unread messages.

"...What's this now."

At the very top of the notification window.

[Seia] - [786 unread messages.]
[108 missed calls. Caller - Seia]

"What the hell."

Why is she suddenly acting like this? Is she on her period or something?

The moment he had a thought that would have made Seia jump, the closed door of the kindergarten burst open. Seia peeked her head through the gap.

"My dear!"

"Wh-what? How did you get here?"

"That's not what's important! I-I had a strange dream. You and Kirifuji Nagisa, here, kissing..."

Seia's gaze went past Kenji. In her vision, Nagisa was sleeping peacefully, holding his hand with both of her own.

Flushed cheeks. Lips glistening with saliva. A happy expression. And the strong scent of Kenji wafting from her body.

"...Ah..."

Seia let out a gasp and whipped her head towards Kenji. His lips were also glistening with saliva, just like Nagisa's.

The moment she confirmed it, tears welled up in Seia's eyes.

"Y-you can't cheat on me... you can't..."

"...What the hell are you talking about, really?"

"Hic, waaaaah...!"

Seia sobbed sorrowfully. As she did, she began to lick the hand that Nagisa was holding.

At the hot, slimy sensation, Kenji yelped and tried to pull his hand away, but it wouldn't budge. Instead, as if she didn't like the way it was trembling, Nagisa's grip tightened.

Seia glared at the scene, tears streaming down her face.

"I have to kill her... all the vixens must die...!"

It was a maddening situation.

*

"Mmm... mm..."

Nagisa woke up, lifting her heavy eyelids. Moonlight streamed through the closed window. Hadn't she closed the curtains? She always made sure to close the curtains before going to bed. She sat up, her body groggy, and stared blankly ahead.

The place she saw was a familiar one. The dormitory. The room she shared with Chiyo.

The clock on the table pointed to 4:30 AM. There was nothing strange about being here at this time. But Nagisa felt a strong, unexplainable sense of unease. A feeling like she had forgotten something important.

-Snore, fwooo... snore, fwooo...

Chiyo's snores came from the next bed. Nagisa frowned and turned her head towards her.

And then she saw it. The empty bottle of alcohol rolling around under Chiyo's bed.

'...Alcohol?'

Wait a minute, alcohol?

"Uh oh..."

Her dazed mind cleared. And at the same time, the memories that had disappeared began to come back to her vividly. That she had received alcohol from Chiyo and tried to make Kenji drink it. But that she had gotten drunk instead. And the things she had said in that state...

-I, Kirifuji Nagisa, am in love with the man named Kenji Suzuki.

"Aaaaaaaah!"

"W-whaaat! What is it! Is it an attack from the horn-heads!"

At Nagisa's scream, Chiyo shot up from her bed. Then she put her hand on the shotgun hanging next to her bed and scanned her surroundings. But all she saw was not an attack from Gehenna, but Nagisa kicking her blanket repeatedly. Holes appeared in the blanket with her kicks.

"...Nagisa? What are you doing?"

"Ahhh... I'm doomed... I'm so doomed...!"

"A-are you okay? Are you sick somewhere...?"

Chiyo asked cautiously, but Nagisa couldn't hear her. Her mind was in such a mess that she couldn't pay attention to her surroundings.

A love confession. And what's more, she had blurted out all her usual thoughts to him! She felt like she was going crazy. What was she thinking, saying such things? What if he thought she was a troublesome woman? And what? She'll be by his side forever even if she's rejected? She won't let him go?

It was a natural thought, but there was a big difference between keeping it to herself and saying it out loud. No matter how you looked at it, she was a woman crazy in love.

Not that it was wrong.

It wasn't wrong, but!

Nagisa let out a suppressed scream and rolled around on her bed.

Then, at some point, her movements stopped abruptly. She stared blankly at the ceiling and recalled the sensation that lingered on her lips.

'...A kiss... it was soft...'

She blushed and pulled the hole-ridden blanket up to her eyes.

Kenji's lips were... truly, indescribably ecstatic. It was just a light touch, but it felt like all the pleasure cells in her body were tingling. Her head was steeped in pleasure, and the sensation of her lower abdomen vibrating was something she could never forget.

'...Can I... do it again?'

Nagisa thought, caressing her lips.

Yes, the milk was already spilled. Regretting it wouldn't help at all. What was important now was not the past, but the future. She had confessed while drunk, but she hadn't received an answer yet. To get a positive answer, she had to be more proactive and appealing, not hesitant like before.

Should she call it a relief? She had already instilled in him the perception that she was a 'woman'. She had confessed and even kissed him, so it would be strange if she hadn't. And hadn't she seen it herself? The way he had blushed slightly when he looked at her face.

'There's a chance.'

No, on the contrary, it had become the highest among the three of them.

Nagisa smiled faintly and stretched out her hand to the side. Fortunately, her smartphone was in its usual place. She unlocked it with a familiar gesture and opened the notification window. There were many messages, but she checked the one from Kenji first.

[If you're reading this message, it means you've returned safely. Seia went through a lot, so thank her.]
[It's a relief if you don't remember, but if you do, tomorrow will probably be tough.]
[And make sure to buy and take a hangover cure.]
[See you tomorrow.]

Nagisa giggled and typed on the keyboard. But she didn't send it. Replying at this hour would only be a nuisance, so it would be best to send it in the morning.

After checking Kenji's message, she checked the one from Seia. There were only two lines, but that's what made them so powerful.

[You damned vixen.]
[Stop wagging your tail at Kenji.]

Nagisa snorted and read Seia's message.

What was she talking about, with no chance and a weak body? It was absurd that she was talking as if she were his girlfriend without even knowing her place. It was so funny she thought she would fall over.

After replying to Seia with 'I don't want to.', Nagisa opened Mika's message. It was several times longer than the others.

[Nagi-chan.]
[Seia-chan told me that you and Kenji kissed. And that you forced him?]
[Ahaha, that can't be true. I told Seia-chan, what are you talking about.]
[But you smelled like alcohol today, Nagi-chan. And Kenji's scent too.]
[Nagi-chan.]
[I may have betrayed you first, but I don't think this is right.]
[I only went on a date. The only skinship was holding hands.]
[But what is this? Are you getting revenge like this?]
[Alcohol? And a kiss?]
[I don't like it, Nagi-chan. I don't like this. I don't want to be angry at you.]
[So the promise is broken.]
[Yes, it was meaningless from the moment I betrayed you anyway.]
[Nagi-chan.]
[Just like you did, I won't hold back anymore.]
[But don't worry! Even if Kenji and I get married, you'll always be my friend, Nagi-chan?]
[Yes, friends!]

Nagisa wrote a reply with a blank expression.

[Do your best.]

-Ding.

A reply came back in less than a second.

[Okay☆]
